How long does a sump pump last in a Chicago basement?

Do I need a battery backup sump pump?
If your basement is finished, or storms in your area often knock out power, a battery backup or secondary pump keeps the pit clearing when the primary pump has no electricity. We size the backup to the same pit and discharge as the main pump.
Can my sump pump discharge into the sewer in Chicago?
Tying a sump discharge into the sanitary sewer is not permitted. The discharge should be routed outside to an approved location away from the foundation. If yours is connected incorrectly, we can look at re-routing it.
